At the very least get him drunk enough to give you the admin password Even if you could do a 'manual install', by copying the files and changing the relevant settings, you would still need admin access to change system files and modify the registry.

The short answer is if you don't have admin rights, it is impossible to get Direct X installed. The game won't run without directx, and without admin, you can't install it.

How would I go about switching to OpenGL ?
